Navigating Berlin's phenomenal food, culture, and night life can be a little overwhelming, so I thought I'd give you a hand:
Frequently asked questions
General
If it was me, I would quickly get out of this district and either head to Friedrichshain on the U5, or take the S-Bahn two stops to Oranienburgerstr. Food options are far better there.
If you’re hungry and can’t wait, some manageable options are:
Nante Eck (Slightly over-priced, but does decent German food)
Alt-Berliner Wirsthaus (Near the Holocaust Memorial)
Teras (Angela Merkel’s Favourite Kebab Shop)
Kerb Food Hall (Near Potsdamer Platz)
Augustiner am Gendarmenmarkt (Near the French & German Cathedrals)
Zollpackhof (Near the main train station)
For history fans, I always recommend:
Berlin Zeit (The Ephraim Palais)
Berlin Global (Humboldt Forum)
The Jewish Museum
The Topography of Terrors
The Stasi Museum
Everyday Life in the DDR (Kulturbrauerei)
For art fans:
The New National Gallery (For your Rothkos & Picassos)
The Boros Foundation (pre-booked tickets needed)
C/O Berlin
The Berlinische Galerie
A big question to ask.
My three favourite German restaurants are:
Knoedelwirtschaft
Trio
Augustiner am Gendarmenmarkt
You could also go anywhere around the Nikolaiviertel and just pick somewhere (Zum Nussbaum is very famous, as is Zur Letzten Instanz)
For Schnitzel
Schnitzelei
Scheers Schnitzel
For Currywurst
Don’t go out of your way for a currywurst; it’s just curry powder and ketchup on a sausage
Ketels Curry
Markthalle Neun Butcher’s
Curry 61
For Doner
Zagros
Mustafa’s
Best Gemüse Kebap
The Deutschland Museum & Spy Museum (far more immersive and geared towards families)
MyJump Mitte (A trampoline park and climbing area)
Natural History Museum
Disgusting Food Museum
Rittersport Chocolate Shop (You can do your own chocolate-making workshops)
Anoha (The Jewish Museum Children’s section)
